Area residents created more than 100 cards during the American Red Cross Holiday Mail for Heroes campaign held at Greenwich Hospital on Dec. 5.

About 40 people gathered in the hospital’s Noble Conference Center for Holiday Mail for Heroes, the annual American Red Cross campaign that encourages people to send messages of thanks and holiday cheer to military members, veterans and their families.

“Cards from this campaign will be shipped to patients in Veterans Affairs hospitals across the country and to active duty service members. Our goal next year is to reach 200 cards!,” said Stacey Green, director of Volunteers at Greenwich Hospital, who worked with the American Red Cross to organize the event.

The colorful cards were adorned with pictures of Christmas trees, snow men and other holiday favorites and included messages that often echoed the sentiment of one card, “Have a Safe Holiday.”
