The Brunswick School basketball team, playing in a doubleheader usually reserved for baseball teams, lost two games in the Seacoast Classic earlier today. In the two games, hosted by Tabor Academy, the Bruins dropped the opener to the host school 66-57, and later dropped the nightcap 60-40 against Taft.

Against Tabor, Brunswick (3-4) was down by six points at the half. The Bruins battled back to tie the contest with seven minutes to play, but some red-hot shooting by Tabor in their home gym proved to be the difference down the stretch.

Senior Nacho Nwana paced Brunswick with 20 points, while sophomore Graham Pierce tied a season-high with 13 points and junior Will Marvin chipped in a dozen.

In the second game, the Bruins battled through the first half against the taller Taft line-up that defeated Brunswick in its season-opener 86-58 back on Dec. 2.

The Rhinos established their front court presence on the low post in the final minutes of the half, sinking enough shots for an eight-point advantage at the break.

Taft extended its lead in the second half, as the Rhinos won 60-40.

Nwana again led the Bruins, scoring 18 of the team’s 40 points.

Brunswick wraps up their three-game event with a noon tip-off Saturday and will face Suffield Academy, who beat Taft earlier in the day on Friday.
