The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference has announced its pairings in several fall sports and Greenwich High School will be well-represented.

The Greenwich High School volleyball team, coming off a heartbreaking loss to Darien in the FCIAC semis on Thursday, will start play in the CIAC class LL tournament on Monday. The Lady Cardinals, with a 13-4 regular season record, picked up the No. 10 seed and will host No. 23 seeded Bristol Central High School at 6 p.m.

If Greenwich pulls out the victory, they will travel up to Norwalk and compete in the rubber match against Brien McMahon High School on Nov. 12 at 6 p.m. The No. 7 seeded Senators (16-4) earned an opening round bye. GHS fell to the Senators 3-2 at the end of the regular season, but swept BMHS in the opening round of the FCIAC tourney.

The overall No. 1 seed in the class LL volleyball tourney is Darien, as they posted a 17-0 regular season and only lost two sets all season (one to Greenwich 25-10 in the FCIAC semis).

Also starting play in the CIAC class LL tournament on Monday will be the Greenwich High School girls soccer team. With an impressive regular season record of 11-3-2, the Cardinals picked up the No. 8 seed and will host No.. 25 seeded Cheshire High School at Cardinal Stadium at 2 p.m.  The Rams enter the tourney with a 7-8-1 record.

If the Lady Cardinals come through with the victory, it could possibly set up an interesting second round match. If No. 9 seeded South Windsor takes care of business against No. 24 Conard High School in the opening round, GHS could possibly settle some unfinished business and play SWHS for the second time in three seasons.

Two years ago, Greenwich traveled up to South Windsor and played to a scoreless regulation before South Windsor came away with the 1-0 victory to send Big Red home.

The Greenwich High School boys soccer team will be playing a familiar foe in the opening round of the CIAC class LL tournament. The Cards, with a 8-3-5 regular season record, drew the No. 19 seed and will travel to Fairfield Ludlowe High School Tuesday afternoon for a game against the back-to-back FCIAC champion Falcons that starts at 5 p.m..

Back on Oct. 16, Big Red traveled to Taft Field and were defeated by Ludlowe 1-0. If Greenwich comes out on top, they will either host No. 3 Bristol Central High School (6-8-2) or travel back to Fairfield and compete against third-seeded Fairfield Prep (13-2-1) Thursday afternoon at 2.

The Greenwich High School field hockey team will be seeing a lot of Connecticut this postseason. With a record of 10-5-0-1, Big Red picked up a No. 9 seed, which means they will pack up the bus and head north to Simsbury High School for a game Wednesday afternoon at 5. Simsbury picked up the No. 8 seed with a 11-5-0-0 record.

If the Lady Cardinals claim victory, they will back on the road Friday or Saturday afternoon. No. 16 seed Norwich Free Academy (6-5-5-2) and No. 17 seed Hamden (7-8-1-0) are playing a qualifying round game on Monday. The winner goes up to top-seeded Glastonbury High School (14-0-1-0) for Wednesday’s first round game and Greenwich will play the winner of that game.

After falling to Norwalk High School during last year’s class L qualifying round game, Greenwich High is looking to go much further in states this season.
