Man how time flies. Seems like yesterday that the fall athletic teams at Greenwich High School were finalizing rosters and gearing up for the start of another sports season.

But now we are entering the final days of the regular season in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference and a flock of Cardinals are ready to make some postseason runs.

The Greenwich High School boys soccer team, with a regular season record of 8-3-5, grabbed the No. 6 spot in the FCIAC tournament and will travel to Wilton High School for its quarterfinal round. The game will be played Thursday starting at 6.

The winner of the game will advance to Monday’s FCIAC semifinal round, which will be played Monday at Taft Field on the campus of Fairfield Ludlowe High School starting at 5.

On the girls side of the pitch, the Greenwich girls soccer team finished the regular season with a regular season record of 11-3-2 and will host its FCIAC opening round game. The Cardinals will be the No. 4 seed in the tournament and will play Fairfield Ludlowe High School Friday at 3:30 p.m.

If Big Red wins, they will advance to the FCIAC semis and compete at Wilton High School’s Lilly Field Tuesday. The semis get underway at 5 p.m.

Not to be outdone is the Greenwich field hockey team. With a record of 10-4-0-0, the Lady Cardinals picked up 20 points. With the final day of the regular season taking place today, Greenwich’s place isn’t clinched yet. However it appears Greenwich will be the No. 5 seed and will travel to either New Canaan or Norwalk High School Saturday for its FCIAC opener.

Next week will be just as busy, as the Greenwich High School girls volleyball team, as well as the GHS girls swimming and diving team, will compete in FCIACs. The volleyball team will start play on Tuesday and the swimming and diving team will be competing in trials starting Tuesday as well.
