The Brunswick School soccer team picked up its 10th win of the season Wednesday afternoon against Pomfret School, playing on a neutral pitch at Choate Rosemary Hall and coming away with the 2-1 decision.
Playing in some pretty heavy rain throughout, the first half was a little sloppy. The Bruins were able to get on the board first, with a corner kick from Sal Lopez in the 26th minute ending up in the back of the net, following a header from Nick Boardman to the foot of Alex Buckanavage in front of the goal.
Pomfret responded a few moments later with a cross being headed just past the outstretched hands of Brunswick goalie Will Salomon, ending the scoring for the first half.
The lone goal of the second half came on the 68th minute, when Will Sands retrieved a throw in from Jack Stephenson, cut through the defense and ripped it past the Pomfret keeper.
Salomon played a very solid game in net for us, making 11 saves in the effort. The highlight of which coming on a penalty kick that was awarded to Pomfret in the 86th minute. Salomon guessed correctly, making a diving save to his left, then stuffing the second attempt following the rebound that was in front of the net.
Midfielders James Sands and Sal Lopez, in addition to defenders Jared Boothe and Aidan Schubert, each played impactful minutes for us.
The 2-1 win Wednesday brings Brunswick’s record up to 10-2 as they prepare to host Hopkins under the lights of the Cosby Field on Friday.
