Letter: Vote for Richman

lettertotheeditor

To the Editor:

All you ever hear from some quarters is that town government is inefficient and too big. Well now’s the chance to do something about it at the ballot box on Nov. 3. Make the tax collector an appointed position and let’s save ourselves over $100,000 annually.

A vote for Howard Richman, the Democratic candidate, is a vote to bring us in line with 80 percent of similarly sized municipalities in Connecticut and get rid of an outdated piece of political patronage. Howard’s candidacy is in effect a mini referendum on the proposition that the tax collector should no longer be elected and he’s garnering support across the political spectrum. He wants to be Greenwich’s last elected tax collector and will push the Board of Selectmen and the Board of Estimate and Taxation to make this long overdue change. As a member of the BET I will champion this initiative.

Vote Richman, you’ll save money, and it will be the last time you have to vote for tax collector!
