Greenwich Teens Volunteer To Help the Homeless in NYC

JCC-teenaction-commWhile most of us were enjoying our Sunday morning sleep-in, a group of 16 participants from the JCC Greenwich Teen Action Committee headed to New York City at dawn last Sunday to serve the homeless population with Midnight Run, a volunteer organization dedicated to finding common ground between the housed and the homeless. They served over 50 homeless men and women breakfast as well as distributing sweatshirts, socks, underwear, and toiletries. Bagels and coffee were generously donated by Dunkin’ Donuts on 271 W. Putnam Avenue, Greenwich.

The teen volunteers ages ranged from 11 to 16. “I like the way their faces lit up when we gave them the food and they were really thankful,” one teen said.

The Teen Action Committee meets monthly during the school year to help plan and organize community service projects for middle and high school students in Greenwich. For more information and to join, contact Leah Schechter at 203-552-1818 or Leah@jccgreenwich.org. Visit jccgreenwich.org/tac for more information.
