Keyed by a stellar defensive performance, the Greenwich Academy field hockey team kept the good times rolling Wednesday afternoon when they upended Taft School 2-0.
The Gators got the ball rolling in the first half, as Lucy Burke took the pass from Olivia LeSueur and Kate DeFrino and found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead with 7:57 left.
Greenwich Academy’s second goal came with 13:25 to play in the contest, as Alexa Murray picked up the goal. The duo of LeSueur and DeFrino once again netted assists.
Maggie Reville finished the game with one save for GA and the team fired off 11 shots on goal.
“I thought defensively we played a solid game,” GA head coach Jamie Brower said. “We’ve been working on improving our defense and I thought it showed today. We were very strong. Offensively we played well, but we need to go back to working on effectiveness in the offense and with shots on goal.”
With the victory, Greenwich Academy moved to 6-1 overall and will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Rye Country Day School.
