Greenwich Police are investigating a theft of a customized 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air that occurred in Backcountry Greenwich Saturday afternoon.

The owner of the vehicle, a Westchester County resident, was visiting a friend who lives on Bedford Road. After leaving the house for about two hours with the black custom Chevy classic parked in the driveway, the owner came back to find his car missing.

Valued at an estimated $60,000, the car has a noticeable engine mounted on the hood and is painted black.

Lieutenant Kraig Gray and Officer Oliver Doenges urges anyone who sees the custom car, which may be equipped with New York license plates, to call the Police Department or use the tipline at tips@greenwichct.org.
