First Greenwich Health & Wellness Expo Happening Thursday

The first Greenwich Health & Wellness Expo for Older Adults (formerly Senior Health Fair) is planned for Thursday, October 1, 2015 and will take place at the Eastern Civic Center on Harding Road, Old Greenwich from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Greenwich Department of Health will be providing Influenza (High Dose and Seasonal) Pneumonia and Shingles immunizations at this event.

Activities will include a balance and strength class; lecture by Greenwich Hospital Emergency Department Director, Dr. Christopher Davison; Brain Fitness lecture; Drum Circle; community resources and information; free health screenings to assess hearing, blood pressure, cholesterol, memory, fall risk etc…and pneumonia, flu and adult vaccine immunization clinic. The Fair is a cooperative program presented by the Greenwich Commission on Aging, the Greenwich Department of Health and Greenwich Hospital.

Participants 65 years of age or older must bring their Traditional Medicare Part B Card or their Medicare Advantage ID Card or a fee of $35 will be charged for influenza immunizations (Seasonal and Fluzone High Dose). The charge for pneumonia immunization is $60. Please note that Medicare Advantage Plans do not cover pneumonia immunizations at public clinics. Medicaid and private insurance will not be accepted. However, individuals are advised to call The Department of Health at 203-622-7854 for further assistance. The vaccinations will be available for persons 9 years of age or older. Shingles vaccines will be available to persons 60 years and older for a fee of $182.00 (limited quantities). Checks should be made payable to the “Town of Greenwich” and if paying with cash, exact change will be appreciated. Credit cards will not be accepted.

As in previous years, the Health and Wellness Expo will provide opportunities for older adults to enhance and maintain their health as well as opportunities to meet with representatives of a wide range of municipal agencies and community organizations. Drawings for door prizes, generously donated by local merchants, will be held throughout the day. Free ”Grab & Go” lunch is available for older adults that attend the event.
