Flags commemorating Greenwich’s 375th anniversary will be waving all across town Sunday.

A parade will march through the heart of downtown Greenwich this Sunday to celebrate the town’s 375th anniversary.

The Greenwich Police Honor Guard will lead the parade carrying the 375th commemorative flag, the Town of Greenwich flag, Connecticut State flag, and U.S.A. flag.

A 375th anniversary banner, featuring the logo designed by long-time Greenwich resident and graphic designer Joseph Kantorski, will span Greenwich Avenue.

“So many volunteers have worked on so many different aspects of this Anniversary year’s events and programs that it gives each of them a sense of ownership about their contribution to the festivities,” said Catherine Sidor, the
375th Parade Flag Committee
co-chair.

“The event is becoming so popular that we now need five staging areas to set up the parade on Sunday.”

WGCH will be broadcasting Parade commentary live, as Tony Savino, the station’s Director of News Operations and host of WGCH News Center, serves as one of the event’s emcees. He’ll be announcing the line of March as it passes the Reviewing Stand, filling the airwaves with anecdotes about the participating groups and recognizing marchers for the spectators and those unable to be there in person who will be listening and watching the celebration.

Hayden O’Shea, a recognizable voice from his role announcing Greenwich’s the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, will emcee from a show mobile on lower Havemeyer Field as the bands and marchers arrive.

A total of nine marching bands, 11 floats, horse-drawn Coaches, antique auto’s and vintage fire trucks will be at the parade as well.

The 375th parade route will start at Town Hall at 2 p.m. and proceed up to and along Post Road to Greenwich Avenue; then down the Avenue past the Reviewing Stand for the final spectacular closing ceremony on lower Havemeyer Field where a 50’x100’ flag will be unfurled at 4 p.m. as the grand finale of this milestone 375th Anniversary event.
