Well it’s officially fall and one local designer is celebrating its arrival with the debut of her latest collection at Olivine Gabbro on Greenwich Avenue
“Olivine Gabbro is the name of a rock so we want to bring that element of nature into the collection,” said Grace Kang.
“I just know that I am going to love pretty much everything!” said Jill Ciporin of Greenwich.
Grace Kang is the Creative Director for Olivine Gabbro, a fashion house she and her aunt started together.
“It is all in the family. People ask me what is my motivation and I say, ‘she is my family. I feel responsible for her!’ She came with me 16 years ago from Asia,” said Sue Neumann, owner of Olivine Gabbro on Greenwich Avenue and Grace Kang’s aunt. “She is so talented and she is a good person so it all comes out in her designs and of course I am super proud of her.”
Thursday afternoon, Grace unveiled her Fall collection paired with Stuart Weitzman’s Fall 2015 designer footwear collection.
“The colors are brown, black, gray. Lots of metallics. Beautiful colors. We are very excited for where we are. We are expanding in a good way!” said Kang.
It was Kang’s delicate style that drew Jill Ciporin to Olivine Gabbro.
“I walked by this beautiful white, light, bright store and I walked in and so just these really beautiful things. Fabrics and different ways to use fabrics and I love the design of everything,” said Ciporin.
“We started very small. I started my first collection in my aunt’s basement here in Greenwich. They have been supporting me since the beginning,” said Kang. “I want to show my appreciation and that is why I am doing this show. We could do the show just for business but I want to enjoy this with my friends.”
You can find Grace’s designs at Olivine Gabbro located at 243 Greenwich Avenue.
