Greenwich High School’s Roots and Shoots Club spent the fortieth anniversary of September 11 collecting cans and non-perishable foods.

“Our goal is to collect one can for every life lost on 9/11 attacks, so that’s 2,977 cans,” said Rene Jameson, President of Roots and Shoots.

And they exceeded that goal. Headmaster Chris Winters tweeted that the school collected 3390 food items.

“My favorite part is the school coming together and really working together. One can makes a difference and collecting this many is amazing,” said Jameson.

The thousands of items collected will be donated to Neighbor to Neighbor, a food pantry located in Greenwich.
