Eight tenths of a second can seem like nothing at all, but to Jack Montesi, those eight tenths got him into the Olympic trials in the 200 yard butterfly.

“I was overcome with emotions,” said Montesi.

Jack says he took a whole second off his morning race time and finished the finals with a time of 2:01:10.

“I knew I was close, so I was nervous. Then, I looked up and saw the time, and I was so happy,” said Montesi.

And this might not be the only event Jack qualifies for.

“I was .05 seconds off the 100 yard fly. I was half a second off the 200 backstroke. I definitely want to make a few more cuts, and go down to Omaha,” said Montesi.

The Olympic trails begin in June of 2016. Until then, Jack will be swimming for the Greenwich High School team.
