The Melody Men, the musical outreach group of the Greenwich Retired Men’s Association, sang the national anthem before the July 29th New York Mets vs. San Diego Padres game at Citi Field. The group performs about 30 times a year, bringing Broadway and classic American hits to nursing homes and senior residences around the Fairfield area. This is the second time that the Melody Men have been invited to sing the Star-Spangled Banner at Citi Field. The majority of the Men are military veterans, and to perform their country’s anthem for the second time on such a big stage was an honor. Even 96 year-old Chuck Standard, a World War II Navy Cross Recipient and oldest member of the Melody Men, showed up to sing with the group.
