The DMV will be shut down from Tuesday, August 11 until Saturday, August 15 while the agency gears up for a technology upgrade.
The AAA offices will remain open during the shutdown period for license and ID card renewals. The expiration date of all driver’s licenses, ID cards or vehicle registrations will be extended through October 10, but customers who take advantage of the extension must maintain insurance coverage on their vehicles.
Once the upgrade is complete, the DMV will be offering an extensive new online menu for customers. The new website, ct.gov/dmv, will feature an improved online registration renewal program, and will allow people to to order special plates and replacements for damaged plates online, reprint registration certificates from a home computer, cancel registrations online, check for items such as unpaid property taxes, lack of insurance and delinquent parking violations and choose whether they would like to be contacted by the DMV through mail or email.
