On July 13, the Friends of Nathaniel Witherell presented the Town of Greenwich with a one million dollar check towards Project Renew of The Nathaniel Witherell rehabilitation and nursing center.
The Nathaniel Witherell is owned and operated by the Town of Greenwich. It provides short-term rehabilitation and long-term nursing care for the elderly of our community. The vast majority of residents at the center have spent their lives in Greenwich, and The Nathaniel Witherell represents a collective commitment of the community to provide for the local elderly who have supported our town throughout their lives.
The check was presented at the office of First Selectman Peter Tesei on July 13. The purpose of the funding is to offset the construction costs of Project Renew, a project that focuses on modernizing and refurbishing The Nathaniel Witherell to keep the establishment in a constant state of improvement.
Thanks to nearly $10 million dollars raised by Friends of Nathaniel Witherell over the years, Project Renew has dramatically improved the infrastructure and environment of the center. The number of private rooms has more than doubled, from 26 to 64 rooms, while eliminating crowded four-bedded rooms. The funding has supported the remodeling and redecorating of 86 resident rooms, as well as nearly doubling the size of the Rehabilitation Center.
The Nathaniel Witherell has been recognized as “one of the best nursing homes in Connecticut” by US News & World Report. It has also received a coveted five-star rating from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services every year since 2008, when the rating system was originally established.
For 112 years, this incredible center allows elderly Greenwich citizens to stay in the town that they know and love when at-home care is no longer an option. To learn more about Witherell and contribute to the establishment, visit thenathanielwitherell.org.
