It’s Christmas in July in Greenwich. Downtown merchants met with Greenwich Green and Clean to discuss putting those holiday lights back up on Greenwich Ave.

“Light up Greenwich is a grassroots effort here in downtown to bring our holiday lights back tot he Avenue. It’s little depressing to walk out at 6:00 and it’s pitch black out. We’re going to put them back,” said Scott Mitchell, owner of Richard’s and organizer of the merchants.

The lights were missing last holiday season due to a lack of funding. But this year, merchants and the community are working together to fund a new set of reusable lights.

“Everyone is pitching in. I am so thrilled with these merchants. They are taking a block and asking everybody themselves,” said Mary Hull of Greenwich Green and Clean.

“Landlords, restaurant owners, salon owners, you name it. We will make it work,” said Mitchell.

“If people want to donate, they can g to www.lightupgreenwich.org. There’s a donate now button and they can help this effort,” said Linda Sigler of Greenwich Green and Clean.

Officials say they hope the lights will be back on November 20.
