The goal of Experience the Sound is to educate residents on marine creatures, preservation and more. Children had the opportunity to take a hands on approach to learning today right here at Greenwich Point Park. The focus of the ninth annual Experience The Sound event was “From Streams Through Soil to Sea.”

Hosted by the Greenwich Shellfish Commission the event had touch-a-tanks, arts and crafts, fly casting lessons, a raw shellfish bar, and opportunities to board different boats.

“Experience the Sound is an event celebrating The Long Island Sound and it’s held in conjunction with the opening of the Seaside Center. It encourages people to appreciate the sound and understand what goes on in Long Island Sound,” said Cynthia Ehlinger The Seaside Center Manager.

The Seaside Center is open Tuesdays to Sundays through the beginning of September where you can get an up close look at animals who live in the sound.

“At the Seaside Center we specialize on the animals that live in the sound and helping people understand the ecology of the sound. You can see everything from hermit crabs to some of the fish that live in the sound. We have microscopes so you can look at microscopic plankton that live in the sound,” said Cynthia Ehlinger.
