Riverside native Tyler Shaver, 15, is traveling as a member of the U-15 United States National Soccer Team to Buenos Aires, Argentina to train and compete in matches against the powerful South American National teams of Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.

“I feel very blessed to have been called up to play with such a talented group of players, and I am excited and proud to represent the United States in international competition in Argentina,” said Shaver.

Shaver is a defender for Beachside Academy, where he plays on the U15-16 academy team. He joined Beachside last year from New York Soccer Club and is one of 18 boys in the country that will be traveling with the U.S. National Team to Argentina.

“I have known Tyler since he started playing soccer in the Old Greenwich Riverside Community Center recreational and travel programs. I am so excited to be working with him again at the Academy level,” said Beachside head coach Mickey Kydes. “Tyler’s development over the years has been outstanding and now Tyler is ready to take it to another level, as he is playing with kids that are two years older. Tyler’s selection to the National Team is a testament to his attitude, work ethic, commitment, and soccer brain. We wish him the best of luck”

Shaver attends Brunswick School, where he is in ninth grade and on the high honor roll.

“I want to thank all of my coaches, especially my current coach Mickey Kydes, and my teammates at the Beachside Academy,” Shaver said. “I have benefited greatly from their technical training, hard work and dedication.”
