Kai Thompsen, a 16-year-old from Glenville, recently caught a huge striped bass in local waters off the backside of Captain’s Island.

Billy Ingraham of the Sportsmens Den in Cos Cob officially weighed in the fish at a whopping 55½ pounds.

The young Greenwich native was taken aback by his own success.

“When I saw the look on my friends and family’s faces, I finally was able to appreciate the fish and what I had accomplished,” Kai said.

It is very rare to catch a Striped Bass of this size, and young Thompsen has joined an elite group of fisherman who share this accomplishment.
