

The Greenwich High School boys lacrosse team had its first test in an attempt to repeat at Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference class L champions on Wednesday afternoon and passed with flying colors, beating Fairfield Prep 11-6.
Hosting No. 12 seeded Fairfield Prep, the fifth-seeded Cardinals were able to pull away in the second quarter. After the Jesuits and Cards were knotted at 1-1 at the end of the opening quarter, Big Red found its way to a 6-2 lead at the break and never looked back.
For Greenwich, Will Perry led the way with the hat trick and an assist, while teammate Matt Maugher added three goals of his own. Not to be outdone was Montana Larson, who finished with two goals. Scooter Harrington added a goal and two assists, while Decker Curran rounded out the scoring with a goal and assist.
Prep was paced by Mitchell Savoca, who finished with two goals an assist, while Brendan Hoffman, Cam Harris and Matthew Crowe each pitched in with one goal.
In net, Big Red’s Tommy Rogan finished with 16 saves, while Fairfield Prep’s Jack O’Connor added 13.
With the victory, Greenwich upped its overall record to 15-4 and found an extra surprise shortly after the win. With No. 4 seeded Xavier losing to No. 20 Brien McMahon 15-12, Big Red gets to host another round of the class L postseason. On Saturday at 3, the Cardinals will host the Senators in the class L quarterfinals.
