Greenwich Police Department car event a roaring success

Last Saturday, the annual Greenwich Police Department car show, held in the expansive parking lot of Greenwich Town Hall, was a roaring success on all fronts, drawing scores of spectators from in and around Greenwich and the Fairfield and Westchester County areas there to enjoy the extensive display of 65-plus classic and contemporary cars that were featured.

Teens Talk About Distracted Driving in Greenwich

Greenwich Police Department decided to increase their traffic enforcement on distracted driving last month. Over the last year, there were over 5,400 crashes due to distracted driving in Connecticut. New offenses for having a phone in hand while driving include $200 for the first offense, $375 for the second offense, and $650 for the third and subsequent offenses. These violations have increased between $50 and $150.

Date Set for GPD Emerald Society Parade

Last week, the Board of Selectmen approved a road closure for the Greenwich Police Emerald Society parade, tentatively scheduled for Sept.19. The event will celebrate the GPD's 125th anniversary and honor first responders, health care workers and essential employees who have worked tirelessly to keep everyone safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A New Tool in the Tool Box: GPD Using Police Body Cameras

Per state legislation, police departments in Connecticut are now required to have officers wear body cameras. The Greenwich Police Department first began testing the cameras out in October, and now nearly the entire department has been trained to use them.
