Letter: Committed to an Inclusive Approach

Dear Residents of Greenwich,

I am Harry Fisher, currently serving as the Chairman of our town’s Board of Estimate and Taxation (BET). As a lifelong, third-generation resident of Greenwich, I have been deeply involved in our community, drawing inspiration from my family’s tradition of town service.

I served on the RTM and the BET in the 1980s and 1990s until 1997 when my daughter was born and I decided to step away from what then was a night job on the BET. I was brought back in 2021 to fill Michael Mason’s term when he resigned to become the town’s labor contracts officer; a significant benefit to the town. I was asked again in the late spring of 2022 to fill the term of Michael Basham when he resigned. I then ran for election in November of 2023 garnering the highest vote total for an incumbent member.

You may have noticed recent discussions in the media and letters to the editor regarding the primaries for the Republican Town Committee (RTC), where my name has been mentioned. I want to clarify that I have not given endorsements in this matter. I would also like to clarify that while I acknowledge that I was verbally harassed at a recent RTC meeting, I have not felt personally threatened at any RTC meeting. There are differing perspectives regarding the incident, which some in attendance perceived as a safety concern. I acknowledge the validity of these differing opinions without sharing them.

Our town is facing very real challenges, marked by increasing discord. My primary goal is to reduce these tensions. I believe in fostering regular, open discussions with all members of our community. This approach is essential for achieving collective success, which ultimately benefits our entire town.

Under my leadership, alongside Vice-Chairman Karen Fassuliotis, we are prioritizing unity and open dialogue to tackle Greenwich’s fiscal challenges. We understand the importance of bipartisan governance and are dedicated to working cooperatively with all parties involved. Our focus is not only on the BET’s internal dynamics but also on improving relationships throughout the community, including working closely with all branches of town government.

I am committed to an inclusive approach in policy implementation and committee assignments, ensuring a range of expertise to effectively address our town’s challenges. As we navigate the post-pandemic economic landscape, our emphasis on bipartisan cooperation and effective communication is more crucial than ever.

I welcome any questions or input from all residents. You can reach me at Harry.Fisher.BET@greenwichct.gov. Together, let’s work towards a more united and successful Greenwich.

Thank you for your trust and support.

Sincerely, Harry Fisher
