Obituary: Adelaide Finn

Adelaide Finn

Adelaide (Marciniak) Finn passed away on June 20, 2022 at the age of 89.

She was born in Greenwich, CT, and lived there until she retired from her job at the Greenwich Board of Education in 1998. She moved to Sandwich, MA, after retirement, where she lived her best life for 24 years. In Sandwich she volunteered with the Council on Aging, where she met the first of her many Cape Cod friends and enjoyed helping the elderly community. Addie loved living at Southpoint in Sandwich and made many social connections there. Her friends were a very important part of her life and she was grateful for each and every one of them.

She enjoyed entertaining, gardening, lunch with friends and exploring the Cape. During her early retirement, she focused on travel; southern Europe and the Caribbean were her favorite destinations. She had stories to tell about each place she visited and loved sharing her experiences, especially the restaurant and food encounters!

Addie leaves behind her daughters, Lauren Mayerhoff and husband Mark of Glen Ellyn, IL, and Valerie Gilleran and husband Tim of Tolland, CT. She was predeceased by her daughter, Pam Foster of Chicago, IL; and her brother, Michael Marciniak of Louden County, VA. She also leaves her grandchildren, Alex and Sam Mayerhoff, Caitlin Foster, and Heather and Michael Gilleran.

Special thanks to Sandy and Andy for their friendship and support of Addie. Thank you to Sue for caring for Addie in her last months; she called you an “angel sent from heaven,” and we appreciate your commitment to her care. Also, thank you to everyone who checked in on Addie and watched out for her as she aged in place. We appreciate all of you.

Family and friends are invited to gather for Addie’s Visitation on Thursday, July 21st from 4:00-6:00pm at Nickerson Bourne Funeral Home in Sandwich, MA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Sandwich Council on Aging. www.charitynavigator.org/ein/043757139 (508-888-4737)
