‘Live Like Luke’ Spring Beach Cleanup Scheduled for April 30

The annual “Live Like Luke” Spring Beach Cleanup is happening Saturday, April 30, 11am-3pm, at Greenwich Point Park. The event honors the memory of Luke Meyers, a GHS student activist who lost his battle with cancer in 2019. Luke was dedicated to making improvements in our community to benefit the environment and the quality of life in Greenwich.

His mother, Kerry Meyers, noted that Luke was an inspiration to all who knew him and that he will be remembered for his remarkable creativity, his passion for learning and his determination to effect positive change in the world.

All non-biodegradable debris will be tallied and reported to Save the Sound for submission to the Ocean Conservancy which coordinates results from organizations throughout the world to collect to analyze the pollution in the earth’s waters.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is honoring Luke by installing a climate change education exhibit at the Bruce Museum Seaside Center. He wanted the exhibit to focus on sea-level rise and its impact on Long Island Sound marine life, and to increase awareness of what actions can be taken to slow down global warming.

Preregister at www.greenwichgreenandclean.org/BeachCleanupLiveLikeLuke2022 or join at the beach at the signup tables in the first parking lot.

Community Service Certificates will be available.

Community partners for the cleanup include the Environmental Action Club at Greenwich High School (GHS), Live Like Luke, Greenwich Green & Clean, Greenwich Recycling Advisory Board (GRAB), Greenwich Shellfish Commission, Waste Free Greenwich and several other local environmental organizations.
