Today, the YMCA of Greenwich announced that it is launching a Summer Camp Scholarship Program for children of COVID-19 essential workers. The YMCA is partnering with Greenwich Hospital, the Greenwich Police  Department, the Greenwich Fire Department, and GEMS to identify candidates for the program.

The Summer Camp Scholarship Program is launched in appreciation of Greenwich’s essential workers. The program’s target is to generate donations that will allow half of the campers to be children from families who sacrificed so much for all of us. Summer  Camp Scholarship recipients will enjoy eight weeks of theme-based activities, daily swim lessons, and other programs.

“Last year, the Y was able to provide free, full-day childcare for children of healthcare workers at Greenwich Hospital through CT’s Project 26,” said Patrice Francois, Interim  Chief Executive Officer, YMCA of Greenwich. “Having witnessed first-hand the positive impact of this no-cost program, the YMCA and its Board of Directors wanted to extend a

similar courtesy to our essential workers and thank them for their dedication during the pandemic. The Y has provided services that support the community for over 100 years and  this program allows us to continue that tradition.”

To kick off the program, the YMCA of Greenwich hosted an event on Tuesday, April 27th that was attended by State Representative Harry Arora, Greenwich First Selectman Fred  Camillo, Police Chief Jim Heavey, GEMS Executive Director Tracy Schietinger, Tom Milucci and Heather Studwell of Greenwich Hospital, YMCA of Greenwich Chairman of the Board  Shahryar Oveissi, among others.

Through this scholarship program, we hope to show our appreciation to the tireless healthcare workers and first responders who kept our town safe during the COVID-19  pandemic,” stated Anne Franscioni, Chair of the YMCA of Greenwich Development  Committee. “I am excited and honored to be working with the YMCA of Greenwich in  developing this program, and I encourage others who want to show their gratitude to join  us in our effort to thank those who have done so much for our community.”
