The Greenwich Choral Society will hold its traditional December concerts, this year called “Winter Lights,” Saturday, Dec. 2 at 4 p.m. and Sunday Dec. 3 at 2:30 and 5 p.m.

The program will feature Bach’s setting of the Magnificat, Mary’s joyful prayer announcing the coming of the Messiah. The concert will begin with the traditional candle-lit procession with handbells and voices surrounding the audience with the hushed sounds of the season. Shorter works by Handel and Mozart will be interlaced with beguiling carol arrangements, many with audience participation.

Highlights will certainly be Michael Isaacson’s animated Hanukkah song Light the Legend, and the World Premiere of Colin Britt’s Light Upon Light, a setting of English translations of passages from the three major Abrahamic religions – Judaism, Islam and Christianity. These include excerpts from Isaiah 9:2, the 35th verse of the 24th Sura of the Qur’an, and the Gospel of John 1:5. The passages revolve around the theme of light as a way to symbolize our commonality.

The Holiday concerts will be presented at Christ Church, Greenwich. For additional information and tickets, visit GreenwichChoralSociety.org
