Margaret Bartoli of Riverside passed away peacefully at home, with her daughter Elisa Foley by her side, on Friday morning, July 21. She was 97 years old, but forever youthful and vibrant.

Born on July 18, 1920 in New York City to Charles and Catherine Martin, Margaret grew up with one cherished sister, Catherine Palumbo, who predeceased her in 1996, and many wonderful cousins.

When she was 16 years old, she met her future husband, Daniel J. Bartoli. Although she was granted a full scholarship to The Cooper Union School of Art based on her artistic talents, on graduating from high school she chose to become an assistant buyer at G.C. Murphy & Company in Manhattan.

On June 18, 1944 at age 23, she embarked on the adventure of a lifetime when she married her beloved Danny. Together, they moved to Greenwich and shared 66 years of love, laughter and fun until his death in 2010. Elisa is their only child.

Margaret was extremely active in the community serving on boards at the Greenwich YWCA, Cos Cob Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, volunteering as a speech therapy assistant in the Greenwich Public School system, was member of the New York Botanical Garden, Girl Scout Leader, and—by popular demand—class mother year after year. She eagerly and enthusiastically looked forward to every election, serving first as election moderator at North Mianus School (District 12) for many years and then as head moderator based at Town Hall.

A devoted parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, over the years Margaret served on various committees including the Carnival of Fun and Sanctuary Committees.

Margaret saw beauty and good in everything and everyone. She will be remembered for her kindness, her gentle nature, and her ever-present smile.

Calling hours were held July 25 at The Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 31 Arch St.  (leopgallaghergreenwich.com). A Mass of Christian burial was held the following day at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 4 Riverside Ave., Riverside.
