The Center for HOPE will welcome world-class triathlete, cancer survivor and author Karen Newman to the podium as the speaker for its 2016 Annual Luncheon on Tuesday, May 3. The event will be held at 11 a.m. at Wee Burn Country Club in Darien.

Newman is an eight-time All-American triathlete who earned a silver medal at the 2012 Age Group Triathlon World Championships in Auckland, NZ. She followed up that performance a year later by setting a triathlon world record at Huntsman Senior Games in Utah. While Newman’s awards and accolades rival those of the most accomplished athlete, what’s remarkable is how she managed to train despite undergoing debilitating treatment for advanced breast cancer.

Newman’s new book, Just Three Words, is a gripping story that reveals the incredible power words have –to shatter or empower us –and the astonishing potential that love has to heal. Newman has inspired thousands as she continued training and competing in triathlons throughout her grueling cancer treatments.

The 2015 Center for HOPE Luncheon is co-chaired by Catherine Corroon, Stephanie Douglass and Susan Yonce, all of Greenwich, and Barbara Epifanio of Darien. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Center for HOPE and The Den for Grieving Kids, Family Centers’ programs offering counseling and support to residents of lower Fairfield County coping with a loss, a critical illness or life-altering circumstance.

Tickets start at $125 and are available at familycenters.org. Several sponsorship opportunities – which include a semi-private reception with Newman – are also available. A copy of Newman’s book will be included with each ticket purchase. For more information, contact Aleksa Lazarewicz-Anstey at alazarewicz@familycenters.org
