David Michaelis on “Eleanor”
December 9, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
David Michaelis will discuss his just published biography of Eleanor Roosevelt, a towering 20th century figure. Featuring new interviews and resources that no biographer has previously referenced, Michaelis traces her rise from a shy, self-conscious girl from a well-known wealthy family to an iconic First Lady and activist. He recounts Eleanor’s troubled childhood with an alcoholic father and affectless mother, her transformation from opposing the 19th Amendment to becoming one of the world’s leading women’s rights activists, her complicated marriage and partnership with the great President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, her trailblazing 12 years as First Lady, and her humanitarian accomplishments.
