YMCA Hosting Free Family Pool Party

On Sunday, April 29, the YMCA of Greenwich is celebrating YMCA’s Healthy Kids Day with a free family pool party, encouraging families in Greenwich to get moving. Healthy Kids Day, the Y’s national initiative to improve families’ health and well-being, takes place at 1,900 Ys and kick-starts healthier behaviors now and throughout the summer, a critical out-of-school time for children’s health. read more...

YMCA, Abilis to Host Autism Advocate

The YMCA of Greenwich and Abilis will welcome guest speaker Marguerite Elisofon on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 2:30 to 5 p.m., to discuss her memoir, My Picture Perfect Family: What Happens When One Twin Has Autism. In this inspiring book, Marguerite chronicles her lifelong dedication to helping her twin daughter, Samantha, who was diagnosed as a toddler. She reveals how autism not only affects one person, but the whole family. Marguerite will discuss her experiences and what she has learned over the past 25 years, as she has gone through the highs and lows of having a family member living on the spectrum. read more...

YMCA, Abilis celebrate new swim program with ribbon cutting

The YMCA of Greenwich will hold swim evaluations for the children who will participate in their special needs swim program Saturday, Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. This program was made possible by a grant from the Abilis Community Foundation. The grant allowed the YMCA to purchase special steps for the pool to make entry and exit easier for the special needs swimmers. To commemorate the start of the program, YMCA CEO Bob DeAngelo and Abilis Community Foundation President Hal Ritch will preside over a brief ribbon cutting ceremony. Abilis CEO Dennis Perry and YMCA of Greenwich Board Chair Sandy Waters will be in attendance. read more...
