RMA Presents: “Water and Food Security in a Changing World”

The Platte River Basin and the Ogallala Aquifer are the largest irrigated area in the U.S, and 7/8 of Nebraska's land is sustainably irrigated by groundwater. But in parts of Asia millions of farms are irrigated by millions of small wells in an unmanaged manner and groundwater is being depleted, while in Africa, new irrigation systems will have to be built to keep up with the rapidly expanding population. Robust water management institutions are needed, as well as leadership and solutions at the local level.
