Column: Bury the Lines, Save the Trees!
Early this year, 650 homes and businesses in downtown Greenwich lost power for several hours, not due to an ice storm, lightning strike or falling tree limb, but instead due to…a mylar balloon.
Overhead lines are the "horse-and-buggy" of electrical distribution.
Buried lines are the current standard for all new construction, trees would not have to be pruned so aggressively and could grow in a more balanced, natural shape if not competing with wires.
