Simoncic to Lead the Young Artists Philharmonic

The Young Artists Philharmonic (YAP) announced the appointment of Tara Simoncic as Guest Conductor for its winter concert, which takes place March 18 at Yale University’s School of Music in New Haven. Maestro Simoncic is in her fourth season as the Music Director of the Greenwich Symphony’s Young People’s Concerts, which bring classical music to thousands of students in the Greenwich public and private schools each year. Comfortable in all genres, Simoncic frequently works with symphony, opera, and ballet companies in the U.S. and abroad, and recently finished a successful performance of The Nutcracker with New York City Ballet. read more...

Chamber Players to Perform Two Concerts

Spring will arrive a few days early for the audience attending the March 12 and 13 concerts of the Chamber Players of the Greenwich Symphony. Diane Lesser will provide a breath of it with her oboe; Ruotao Mao, violinist, will join the Chamber Players as a guest artist, and there will be a performance of one of Beethoven’s “late” string quartets. read more...

Canadian Violinist to Appear with Greenwich Symphony

The Greenwich Symphony Orchestra will join forces with Canadian violinist Christina Bouey on Feb. 25 and 26 for a performance of Sibelius’s magnificent Violin C oncerto. Ms. Bouey has been hailed by Op era News for playing “with exquisite, quiverin g beauty.” Also on the program are Chausson’s Symphony in B-flat Major and Medea’s Meditation and Dance of Vengeance by Samuel Barber. read more...

Greenwich Symphony to Feature Strauss Horn Concerto

The Horn Concerto No. 1 in E-Flat Major of Richard Strauss will have top billing for the Greenwich Symphony’s second concert of the season, on Nov. 19 and 20. Peter Reit, the Symphony’s principal French horn player, will take on the solo lead for this performance. Reit also plays principal horn with the Westchester Philharmonic and Scandia Symphony Orchestras. Young People’s Concert to Focus on Soloists

On Nov. 15 the Greenwich Symphony will present the first “Young People’s Concert” of the season, for grades 4 and 5. The program, created for young listeners by Tara Simoncic, Associate Conductor of the Orchestra, will, for the first time, devote the entire concert to works featuring soloists performing with the orchestra. read more...
