Column: Searching For the Root Causes of the Adolescent Mental Health Crisis

The crisis facing teens and the adults who care for them is real. Hopefully, as parents and teachers, we can exercise the courage and curiosity to consider how reconnecting with diverse, ever-present sources of meaning and purpose can provide us and the young people in our care with answers to the big questions and address the deeper needs at the root of their angst.

Anxiety in Teens

Christ Church offered a free parenting talk titled "Living in an Age of Anxiety and Finding Hope". The panel of experts included Josh Barton, Director of Youth Ministry at Christ Church; Joe O' Callaghan, LCSW, Dept Chair Social Work, Stamford Schools and Psychotherapist at Greenwich Center for Hope and Renewal; Clarena L. McBeth, LMHC, LPC, Adolescent & Adult Licensed Psychotherapist; and Ashley Lopez, Crisis Service Counselor at Kids in Crisis. The talk addressed the increasing anxiety crisis, particularly for students, and the symptoms and signs of anxiety. The experts offered advice and guidance on how parents can help their children cope with anxiety.
