Dance Competition, Gala Raises Funds for Abilis

The Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Greenwich is hosting the first annual Dancing Stars of Greenwich Gala at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 22, at Tamarack Country Club in Greenwich. Abilis to Host Open House for Families with Special Needs

Abilis, the Fairfield County-based non-profit organization that provides services and support for individuals with special needs and their families, will host an Open House Services Fair on Thursday, Sept. 13, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m., at the Abilis headquarters located at 50 Glenville St. The Services Fair is free and open to the public and is an opportunity to meet Abilis’ Therapeutic and Life Services professionals to learn more about their programs and services available. Abilis Offers Seminar For Families With Special Needs Children

Abilis, the Fairfield County-based non-profit organization that provides services and support for individuals with special needs and their families, is hosting an informational seminar titled “Navigating the Special Needs Journey” on Saturday, May 12 from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the UCONN Stamford Campus, GEN RE Auditorium, located at One University Pl. in Stamford. Student Cartoonists Sell Calendar to Support Abilis

Greenwich cartooning publishers, AJ inc., are hosting their first fundraiser entitled “Cartoons for a Cause: Abilis Edition,” to raise money for the community at Abilis. The calendar, which is selling for $15 and is sponsored by the Zarrilli family, will be sold on Dec. 18 in two locations: Western Middle School, 1 Western Junior Hwy., and Glenville School, 33 Riversville Rd. To promote the sale of the calendar, a competition will be held to see which founding member of AJ inc. can sell 50 calendars first. The founders of AJ inc. include Angela Zarrilli who attends Western, and Jacklyn Zarrilli who attends Glenville. The calendar features new comic drawings and original interpretations of characters from the Star Wars Universe. read more...

Land Trust Opens its Greenhouse to Abilis Gardeners

The renovation of the Abilis greenhouse has provided the Greenwich Land Trust (GLT) with a unique opportunity to strengthen a community partnership with Abilis, an organization that advances abilities for people with special needs. This fall, GLT opened its home to a special group of volunteers who worked on their microgreen and specialty herb business, as well as lent a helping hand with a variety of other gardening projects. read more...
