GFD Chief Peter Siecienski Retires

After 48 years in fire services, Greenwich Fire Department Chief Peter Siecienski has hung up his turnout gear.

Last Friday morning, the department and members of the community trickled onto the apparatus floor at headquarters to wish Siecienski luck in retirement. During the informal gathering, Siecienski received a proclamation from First Selectman Fred Camillo, and a pass to play golf at the Griffith E. Harris Golf Course.

GFD Promotes Veteran, Swears-In New Recruit

It was a joyous occasion last week inside the public safety complex on Bruce Place, as the Greenwich Fire Department celebrated the promotion of a decorated firefighter, and the swearing-in of a new recruit.

Mark Dawson, who has been with the department since 1999, was promoted to the Fire Marshal’s Division as a fire service inspector. Gary Benson, who comes to town after working as a volunteer firefighter in Stamford, was sworn-in by First Selectman Fred Camillo.

Riverside School to Host Annual Veteran’s Day Ceremony

On Friday, Nov. 9, Riverside School is hosting its annual school-wide Veteran’s Day Ceremony to honor service men and women, both past and present. An annual tradition for the past 14 years, the school invites local veterans, parents and community members to participate in the ceremony, scheduled to kick off at 8:45 a.m. in the school’s gym. The 4th and 5th grade chorus, trumpet players and the school’s Women’s Chorus are all scheduled to take part in the event.
