Witherell Opens New Friendship Garden

More than 100 guests attended the Open House for the new Nathaniel Witherell Friendship Garden May 20, enjoying the beautiful views, light refreshments, and music by the Maria Tiscia Trio. Located in the heart of Nathaniel Witherell’s campus, the Friendship Garden was specifically designed to enhance residents’ sensory perception by including over 600 trees, shrubs, and plants that change with the seasons and stimulate the senses. Dogwoods, laurels, azaleas, and rhododendrons are all currently in bloom. The garden also features benches, wandering paths, and a fountain, plus a new outdoor deck and furnishings have been installed. A special thanks to our major garden contributors: Hortulus, The Woman’s Club of Greenwich, Cummin Associates, Summer Rain Sprinkler Systems, and the Greenwich Tree Conservancy. read more...

Nathaniel Witherell Announces Change in Leadership

Nathaniel Witherell announced that David G. Ormsby, a member of its Board of Directors since 2004 and its Chairman for the last 10 years, is resigning from the board. At a regular meeting of the Board on Jan. 25, Mr. Ormsby said, “Change is vital to the growth of every institution. Nathaniel Witherell is no exception. With the completion of Project Renew, the time seems right for new leadership. The physical plant is in excellent operational condition. I believe our staff, headed by Allen Brown, our Executive Director, and Lynn Bausch, our Director of Nursing, leads the finest long-term care facility in the State. Nathaniel Witherell has enjoyed a coveted Medicare five-star rating for every year that rating system has existed. I have been blessed with a fully engaged Board of Directors, which deserves equal credit for our accomplishments at Nathaniel Witherell during the last 10 years. I have also enjoyed the full support of First Selectman Peter Tesei, as well as the Town’s Board of Estimate & Taxation and its Representative Town Meeting. For me personally, it has been a challenging but immensely satisfying experience. I leave the Nathaniel Witherell and its Board in excellent hands.” read more...
