Joseph McHugh Sworn-In as Greenwich Fire Chief

One of Greenwich’s own returned home on Monday, as Joseph O. McHugh was sworn-in as the new chief of the Greenwich Fire Department.

A socially-distant crowd of over 100 people gathered for the swearing-in ceremony in front of the Public Safety Complex downtown. First Selectman and Fire Commissioner, Fred Camillo, administered the oath, and McHugh’s wife, Pam, pinned the badge to make it official.

Obituary: Robert Van Orsdel

Robert W. Van Orsdel, 94, of Norwalk and Greenwich passed away peacefully on Monday, July 27, 2020 at Fairfield County House hospice. He was the husband of the late Elfrieda (Freddie) Van Orsdel and lived in Norwalk since 1962. Freddie and Bob golfed together, founded the local block party and hosted many nights of bridge at their home. read more...

GPD and Red Cross Teach Safety, Awareness to Children

This week began the American Red Cross Greenwich Safety Town. Safety Town is a comprehensive week-long safety education program offered to local children every summer. The classes teach awareness and accident prevention skills to local children entering kindergarten in the fall. This year Safety Town is virtual. The Greenwich Police Department created two videos for the kids, one by Officer “Bob” Ferretti and the other by Animal Control Officer Suzanne Carlin. Today was the pick-up date for bicycle helmets. The helmets were handed out by Community Impact Officers Hirsch and Paladino and were provided by the Greenwich Police Silver Shield Association. read more...

Obituary: Virginia Masson

On Jan. 30, 2020, just shy of her 87th birthday, Virginia Lee Morton Masson, went home to be with her Lord and Savior. Born on March 2, 1933 in Rumford, Maine to Virginia Robards and Henry Irving Morton, Ginnie was a pioneer of her time, an extraordinary woman of faith with entrepreneurial vision and compassion for others. She was unfailingly kind, and a believer that all things are possible with God. Above all, Ginnie was devoted to her family and their waterfront oasis where she was a 42-year resident of Lucas Point and senior member of Riverside Yacht Club. read more...
