SUMMARY:An Introduction to Ecological Gardening & Landscaping
DESCRIPTION:Come and participate with us and meet like-minded people at Greenwich Audubon’s new Ecological Gardening and Landscaping program. \nThe Greenwich Audubon Center has initiated a new educational program where attendees can learn how to create and maintain ecological landscapes which can contain ecologically managed flower\, herb or vegetable gardens. \nThe advantage of this concept is the creation of a beautiful landscape that is alive with the creatures that brighten our lives\, including songbirds\, butterflies\, dragonflies and lightning bugs. The elimination of harmful chemicals creates a safe space where children can experience the wonders of nature every day. \nWe can all play a part in reversing the ecological degradation of years past by turning our properties into sanctuaries for beneficial creatures. \nIn this first introductory program we will explore the true meaning of the ecological approach\, its advantages and limitations\, as well as your choices in managing your landscape. We will introduce the concepts of ecological gardening and landscaping by focussing on lawn management\, including what should be done now to begin managing landscapes ecologically. \nPresenters: \nJim Carr is educated as a biologist. He was an instructor at the New York Botanical Garden for twenty years\, teaching a variety of horticultural subjects\, always from an ecological perspective. He developed the NYBG program of ecological gardening and landscaping for the School of Professional Horticulture as well as one for home gardeners. \nAndy Chapin is a graduate of the Connecticut Master Gardeners program. He was the former land steward at the Greenwich Audubon Center. He is developing an educational program for the collecting native plant seeds and propagating them\, which will be presented at the Greenwich Audubon Center. \nThe program is FREE but participants must register in advance through our online ticket sales page. There will be no ticket sales at the door the day of the program. Please be prepared to show proof of your ticket registration\, either as a printed copy of your registration receipt or your registration confirmation email on your phone. \n– Program Fee: Admission is FREE but registration required. Please register here: https://greenwich.audubon.org/events/introduction-ecological-gardening-landscaping \n– Recommended for ages 6 and up. \n– Pre-registration is required. \n-Please register for the quantity of ALL members in your party. The rate for children and adults is the same. \n-Upon arrival please check in at the front desk and proceed to Kiernan Hall where our slide show will take place. \n-For questions\, please contact Kim Gregory at staglanefarm@yahoo.com

SUMMARY:GDAS Presents: David Webb - with Levi Higgs\, Head of Archives and Brand Heritage\, David Webb\, NY
DESCRIPTION:David Webb’s jewelry remains astonishingly popular today\, nearly 50 years after the designer’s early death in 1975. As one of America’s premier postwar jewelers\, Webb’s bold and colorful designs appealed to a young and stylish clientele with a growing taste for a more personal style in women’s fashion. The thousands of sketches that David Webb left behind not only document his eclectic and evolving style — but provide his eponymous firm with a treasure trove of designs that has kept it in business to this day. The lecture will explore Webb’s career\, creations and his myriad sources of inspiration\, ranging from astrology to royal orders to pre-Columbian artifacts. \nPIcture: David Webb Jewelry Courtesy\, David Webb Jewelry \nGuests Welcome: Guest fee $25\, reservations Greenwichdecorativearts@gmail.com
