SUMMARY:AuthorsLive: Chef Frankie Celenza Talks EAT with Special Guest George Motz
DESCRIPTION:AuthorsLive is excited to welcome Daytime Emmy Award–winning chef and recipe creator\, Frankie Celenza\, author of EAT: Easy\, Affordable\, Tasty: 100 Recipes with All of the Flavor and None of the Fuss. Frankie will be joined in conversation with George Motz\, renowned chef\, burger authority\, and Emmy Award–winning documentary filmmaker. \nEAT is the antithesis to the never-ending competition for the most elaborate\, expensive\, complicated\, and shocking dishes showcased both on tv and social media. While you might recognize Frankie from Struggle Meals\, he started his career with the goal to help people who felt overwhelmed cooking at home. For a dish to be featured in this book\, it must meet three simple criteria: \nEASY: Each dish must be easy\, which means nothing takes more than 20 minutes of hands-on cooking time.\nAFFORDABLE: Each dish must be affordable\, meaning there aren’t any fancy specialty ingredients\, and what is used\, is used fully.\nTASTY: Each dish must taste great; classic ingredient combinations play the nostalgia card that readers identify with. \nDishes like these have become part of Frankie’s repertoire of family meals that can be made over and over again and never go out of style. Frankie has put his spin on classic American dishes\, dove headfirst into practical trends\, and provided the context of the culinary techniques that take these dishes to the next level. \nJoin us if you’re ready for Frankie’s recipes to make your life easier—whether you’re a novice in the kitchen\, on a budget\, or want to spend less time cooking your meals and more time enjoying them. \nCopies of EAT: Easy\, Affordable\, Tasty will be available for purchase and signing\, with thanks to Diane’s Books.

She has assisted many institutions with curatorial and exhibition work including the statewide Museum Makeover program conducted by Conservation ConneCTion and Connecticut League of Museums to enhance the visitor experience at cultural heritage organizations throughout the state. \nLMMM Chairman of the Board Douglas Hempstead and Executive Director Susan Gilgore said\, “The Museum is thrilled to open this exciting\, new exhibit on American finance\, which has been several years in the making. We are very grateful to CT Humanities and all our supporters and look forward to sharing rarely seen images and artifacts as well as a new perspective on early Wall Street with all our visitors.” \nAuthor and Independent Historian\, Sheri Caplan will join Ms. Danielson as an expert advisor on women’s history of finance. The exhibition was developed with the assistance of Independent Museum Curator/Consultant Kathleen Craughwell-Varda and several outstanding expert advisors including Challis Professor of History at The University of Sydney\, Australia\, Shane White\, award-winning author of\, “Prince of Darkness\, The Untold Story of Jeremiah G. Hamilton\, Wall Street’s First Black Millionaire” ; John E. SUMMARY:AuthorsLive: Michelle Young Uncovers The Art Spy and the Extraordinary Untold Tale of WWII Resistance Hero Rose Valland
DESCRIPTION:AuthorsLive welcomes author and journalist Michelle Young to discuss The Art Spy: The Extraordinary Untold Tale of WWII Resistance Hero Rose Valland\, her riveting and stylish saga set in Paris during World War II that uncovers how an unlikely heroine infiltrated the Nazi leadership to save the world’s most treasured masterpieces. \nMichelle will be joined in conversation by Suzanne Nelson\, award-winning author of dozens of middle grade novels\, and her new gripping adult debut\, The Librarians of Lisbon\, which follows two best friends working as librarians and covert agents in neutral Portugal during World War II. \nOn August 25\, 1944\, Rose Valland\, a woman of quiet daring\, found herself in a desperate position. From the windows of her beloved Jeu de Paume museum\, where she had worked and spied\, she could see the battle to liberate Paris thundering around her. The Jeu de Paume\, co-opted by Nazi leadership\, was now the Germans’ final line of defense. Would the museum curator be killed before she could tell the truth—a story that would mean nothing less than saving humanity’s cultural inheritance? \nBased on troves of previously undiscovered documents\, The Art Spy chronicles the brave actions of the key Resistance spy in the heart of the Nazi’s art looting headquarters in the French capital. A veritable female Monuments Man\, Valland has\, until now\, mostly been written out of the annals\, despite bearing witness to history’s largest art theft. \nCopies of The Art Spy and The Librarians of Lisbon will be available for purchase and signing with thanks to Diane’s Books. \nABOUT THE AUTHOR\nMichelle Young is an award-winning journalist\, author\, and professor whose writing on looted and lost art has appeared in Hyperallergic\, The Forward\, and The Wilson Quarterly. She is a graduate of Harvard College in the History of Art and Architecture and holds a master’s degree from Columbia University’s Graduate School of Architecture\, Planning and Preservation\, where she is a professor of architecture. She is also a scholar in the New York Public Library’s Allen Room and the founder of the publication Untapped New York. Michelle appears regularly in documentaries by Netflix\, National Geographic\, The History Channel\, Smithsonian\, PBS and more\, and her work has been published additionally in Narratively\, The Guardian\, The Wall Street Journal\, Business Insider\, Curbed\, and Metropolis Magazine. She divides her time between New York City and Paris.

SUMMARY:Vietnam: Tradition Upended
DESCRIPTION:From Conflict to Canvas: 50 Years Forward\, We Celebrate Vietnam \nWhy Vietnam? Why now? With 2025 marking exactly half a century since the end of the Vietnam War\, and 30 years since the normalization of relations between Vietnam and the United States\, this is an opportune time to acquaint ourselves with the art and culture of a country that has undergone extraordinary change; a country with one of the most interesting and vibrant art scenes in Southeast Asia. \nJoin us for the first show of the season with an Opening Reception\, Thursday\, September 18\, 6 – 8pm. \nIn collaboration with Art Vietnam Gallery of Hanoi\, the Flinn Gallery presents Vietnam: Tradition Upended. This exhibition\, the first of our 2025-2026 season\, features nine interdisciplinary artists who work in a variety of mediums and styles. These artists all take time-honored traditions and materials and rework them in a modern context\, acknowledging the past while simultaneously breaking away. \nThis exhibition was born out of a visit to Hanoi in the Fall of 2019. Flinn Gallery curators Debra Fram and Barbara Richards traveled throughout the country\, looking at art and exploring a Vietnam they knew only through the news and nationwide protests of war. They scheduled a visit to the highly-esteemed Art Vietnam Gallery\, to meet the well-known leading authority of contemporary Vietnamese art\, Suzanne Lecht. Over the next few hours\, they learned that Suzanne had actually lived in backcountry Greenwich in the early nineteen eighties. These three women connected in many ways\, keeping up with each other over the next five years\, and in the Spring of 2024 this exhibition was born. \nHow does a nation\, a people\, an individual\, overcome the many struggles and challenges not only in personal life but in a global context? Vietnam is a country with an ancient past and\, throughout\, the people have endured centuries of war\, colonization\, internal revolution\, great hardship\, and the lack of freedom for creative expression. Out of this difficult past an exciting new generation of artists has emerged. \nArtists:\nNguyen Cam\, Dinh Thi Tham Poong\, Vo Tran Chau\, Ha Tri Hieu\,\nVu Kim Thu\, Le Thuy\, Pham Van Tuan\, Le Thua Tien and Antonius-Tin Bui \nCurated by Debra Fram and Barbara Richards of the Flinn Gallery\, and Suzanne Lecht of Art Vietnam Gallery in Hanoi. Vietnam: Tradition Upended runs from September 18 through November 12. \nEvents:\nOpening Reception: Thursday\, September 18\, 6 – 8pm \nArtist Talk with Antonius-Tin Bui and Vu Kim Thu:\nSaturday\, September 20\, 2pm Gallery Walkthrough with Co-Curator Suzanne Lecht: Saturday\, September 27\, 2pm \nGallery Walkthrough with Co-Curator Suzanne Lecht\, Art Vietnam Gallery\, Hanoi\, Vietnam\nSaturday\, September 27\, 2pm\, Flinn Gallery \nThe Flinn Gallery is a non-profit organization sponsored by the Friends of Greenwich Library. The gallery is open Monday through Saturday\, 10am – 5pm\, Thursday until 8pm\, and Sunday 1pm – 5pm. It is located on the second floor of the Greenwich Library\, 101 West Putnam Avenue\, Greenwich\, CT.
