Hawk Watch 2020 Season Report

December 4, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

Join Quaker Ridge Hawk Watch Counter Christina Baal and Bird Education Specialist Ryan MacLean for a virtual presentation on the results of this year’s hawk watch season!

An average of 10 – 20,000 migrating hawks, eagles, and falcons are seen over the Greenwich Audubon Center each fall. Hawk watchers submit daily totals of hawks to ornithologists, who are then able to interpret this data and find trends in raptor populations. Hawk watching is a form of community science that is invaluable to our understanding of raptors’ migration patterns. There are many dedicated volunteers who help support the collection and reporting of this critical data.

We hope you join us to learn about how many of each raptor species we saw this season, and how their numbers compare to past years. We will also share information about what birds to look for in the coming months and ways to get involved with our Hawk Watch next year!
