Bruce Experiences: Painting Cherry Blossoms with Dr. Flax

August 18, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The workshop will focus on painting cherry blossoms, a traditional subject of Japanese Ukiyo-e, an exhibition of which “Floating Beauty: Women in the Art of Ukiyo-e” will be on view at the Bruce Museum from September 1, 2020 – November 1, 2020.

Dr. Flax has been teaching painting workshops at the Bruce for the last two years, and this workshop will reference some of the techniques she taught during her previous classes which focused on the exhibition“Contemporary Artists/Traditional Forms: Chinese Brushwork” which was on view during winter of last year.

A practicing artist for the last 50 years, Dr. Flax brings a unique aesthetic sensibility to her lessons and is excited to continue exploring the form and structure of traditional brushwork through our modern sensibility.

This class is for Bruce Museum members only. Class will be live via zoom, and a link will be sent out the day of the event for registered participants. Students will be sent a list of materials needed, all of which will be available at Jerry’s Art-A-Rama at a discount for workshop participants. If you have any questions about the workshop contact Manager of School and Community Programs, Corinne Flax at cflax@brucemsueum.org
