SUMMARY:Meet for Coffee at the Bruce: Beena Kamlani
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a memorable morning of culture and conversation with award-winning author Beena Kamlani\, as she discusses her debut novel\, The English Problem\, and her journey through literature and publishing. Kamlani’s work\, which has graced publications like Virginia Quarterly Review\, Ploughshares\, and World Literature Today\, brings to life the nuanced impacts of colonialism and cultural identity. Her novel explores the lingering effects of Britain’s colonial past and how these tensions shape identity and belonging. \nKamlani\, a Pushcart Prize-winning author and former senior editor at the Penguin Group\, spent nearly two decades teaching book editing at New York University\, where she received an award for teaching excellence. Her work has been recognized by prestigious fellowships at Yaddo\, MacDowell\, Hedgebrook\, and more. \nThis event is part of our Meet for Coffee at the Bruce series\, designed to blend culture with conversation. Where Culture and Conversation Percolate \nSecure your spot today for a morning of rich insights and community discussion over coffee—an opportunity to explore the stories that inspire us all.

SUMMARY:Kenji Nakahashi: Strange Beauty
DESCRIPTION:Best known for his conceptual and street photography\, Kenji Nakahashi (Japanese\, 1947–2017) produced a highly experimental body of work grounded in the everyday. Playful and intellectually rigorous\, his photographs highlight the pleasures of ordinary life\, from subway encounters and skyscrapers silhouetted against the sky to such mundane objects as eggs\, pencils\, and analogue clocks. Yet Nakahashi often destabilized his subjects by placing them in unexpected\, even surreal contexts\, resulting in images that surprise\, challenge\, and delight. Seen through the eyes of this extraordinary artist\, the more than thirty photographs on display invite the viewer into the strange beauty of Nakahashi’s world.

SUMMARY:Blanche Lazzell: Becoming an American Modernist
DESCRIPTION:The first monographic exhibition of her work in nearly two decades\, Blanche Lazzell: Becoming an American Modernist traces the artist’s pioneering approaches to abstraction in the United States. After earning a degree in fine art at West Virginia University\, Blanche Lazzell pursued an education that was increasingly international and avant-garde. In 1907\, she enrolled at the Art Students League in New York under the tutelage of William Merritt Chase and studied alongside classmates such as Georgia O’Keeffe. She spent 1912 in Paris\, taking classes at the progressive Académie Julian and Académie Moderne headed by Charles Rosen and Charles Guérin. Upon her return to the United States the following year\, she joined the vibrant artists’ colony in Provincetown\, Massachusetts\, becoming a student at the Cape Cod School of Art where she was exposed to Fauvist color and technique. Lazzell made a second trip to Paris in 1923 to study with the Cubists Fernand Léger\, André Lhote\, and Albert Gleizes and\, more than a decade later\, she spent a year in the Provincetown studio of the Abstract Expressionist painter Hans Hofmann.

SUMMARY:Bird Feeder-Watch Fridays at Greenwich Audubon
DESCRIPTION:Spend a leisurely afternoon watching and counting birds from Greenwich Audubon’s bird feeder window!\nThe winter months are the perfect time to become acquainted with our resident songbirds. Come join us for this recurring program on Friday afternoons where Audubon Naturalist Ryan MacLean will point out the species of birds coming to our Learning Center’s bird feeder station and provide tips on both identifying and feeding them. \nWe’ll also share how to participate in Project FeederWatch—a winter-long community science survey of the birds that visit feeders in your backyards\, parks\, offices\, and other areas. You and your family can participate by counting the birds you see in your backyard and submitting them to the Project FeederWatch website. We will provide identification guides to backyard birds and information on how you can take part in Project FeederWatch and even submit a checklist of our own at the end of the program! \nAll ages are welcome including children after school and senior citizens. Our building is ADA accessible so wheelchairs and mobility devices can be used. \nThis IN-PERSON program has a limited capacity and will be held indoors. \nRegistration is FREE but tickets MUST be purchased in advance through this online ticket sales page. \nPlease register for the quantity of ALL members in your party. The rate for children and adults is the same. \nUpon arrival please check in at the front desk and proceed to our Learning Center bird feeder window. \nFor questions\, please contact Ryan MacLean at Ryan.MacLean@audubon.org or 203-930-1353 \nPhoto: Carolina Wren + Downy Woodpecker.
