Alien Auroras: Finding Unseen Exoplanets

March 29, 2020 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm

Alien Auroras: Finding Unseen Exoplanets, Dr. Benjamin Pope, NASA Sagan Fellow at the Center for Cosmology and Particle Physics at New York University.

Many of you missed Ben’s fascinating talk on APEP, a rare binary Wolf-Rayet star in September, but you have another chance – we’ve invited him back to cover another topic he’s researching!

Dr. Pope is also affiliated with the Center for Computational Astrophysics at the Flatiron Institute in New York, and the Max-Planck-Institut fur Astronomy in Heidelberg, Germany. This program is co-sponsored by The Astronomical Society of Greenwich and the Audubon Center of Greenwich.

Dr. Pope will explain the exciting new method that astronomers have used to discover an exoplanet by mapping the auroras of its host star, expanding our ability to detect previously unseen worlds.
