With the transformation from school-based education to distance learning, the Greenwich Alliance for Education is pivoting to meet the short and long-term needs of the Greenwich Public Schools, both for teachers and students. They continue to focus, in particular, on the educational needs of the AVID community – teachers, students, and alums – as many of the AVID students are those being provided food and other human service needs through other agencies. The Alliance is funding requests for school supplies and books, teaching Tuning In To Music lessons via Skype, and working with their grantees to provide virtual content. The Alliance can handle more of these educational requests right away and is in contact with school administrators and other non-profit organizations to determine needs as they arise.
Innovation is happening in the Greenwich Public Schools and the Greenwich Alliance for Education is helping fund innovative educational programs to raise achievement for all students. Educators share why innovation matters and how they are doing it.
Greenwich Alliance Executive Director shares an interview with Destiny, an AVID GHS program graduate, about how being noticed, as having potential, changed the educational experience and course of her life. Destiny, now, a first generation college graduate gives credit to her teachers, mentors, and the Greenwich Alliance for Education and is ready to give back and assist another person’s life journey.
The Greenwich Alliance’s Tuning In To Music program funds free instrumental music lessons for students in the Greenwich Public Schools to increase their access to the vast music curriculum offered in middle schools and at Greenwich High School. Music education develops discipline, fine motor skills and self esteem and allows for children to express themselves. Music is also about multi-culturalism and allowing many points of view to come to the table.
AVID National Conference in Dallas focused on the strong message of “Reframing Student Potential”
