GCDS Boys Varsity Lacrosse Secures FAA Championship Title

Greenwich Country Day School’s (GCDS) Boys Varsity Lacrosse team emerged victorious in the Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) Championship, defeating Greens Farms Academy with a score of 11-8. The hard-fought contest showcased the team’s skill, unity, and determination, solidifying their place as champions.

Under the guidance of Head Coach Andy Copelan, the GCDS Boys Varsity Lacrosse program has ourished over the past few years. The team’s success is a testament to their commitment to teamwork, hard work, and discipline. The coaches, players, and the entire athletics program deserve recognition for their outstanding performance in clinching the FAA Championship.

Adam Rhodie, Head of School at GCDS, expressed his pride in the team’s accomplishments, stating, “When we launched our high school four years ago, we had a philosophy around athletics that if we hired the very best coaches who could create a culture that emphasized teamwork, hard work, and joy, the wins would follow. Coach Copelan has created that culture in just a few short years, and we could not be prouder!”

GCDS Director of Athletics, Tim Helstein, also commended the team, saying, “I am incredibly proud of our Boys Varsity Lacrosse team and the culture that Coach Copelan and his staff have cultivated. The players exhibited poise and passion in the championship game, and their hard work has paid off. Congratulations to everyone involved in making this season such a success.”

The GCDS Boys Varsity Lacrosse program faced significant challenges, including the disruption caused by the Coronavirus Pandemic, which led to the cancellation of the 2020 season. However, the team persevered, adhering to COVID guidelines while continuing to practice and train. Their determination and resilience shone through in subsequent seasons, culminating in a well- deserved FAA Championship win with an impressive 11-4 record this year.

Coach Andy Copelan expressed his affection for the team and the growth of the lacrosse program, stating, “I am proud of this team, our seniors, and the development of our program. Our success is a testament to the commitment and dedication of our players. They have embraced our vision and have worked hard to achieve this victory.”
