The Brunswick School wrestling team had a successful weekend at the 2023 New England Preparatory School Wrestling Association (NEPSWA) Championships hosted by Phillips Academy (Andover). Seven Brunswick wrestlers earned spots on the podium, earning them All-New England status.

Ten Brunswick wrestlers attended the two-day tournament, with six earning seeds going into the competition. The team finished in 6th place overall, with all seeded wrestlers performing to or above their expected level.

At 126 lb., Patrick O’Donahue ’25 had an impressive tournament, finishing in 3rd place. After a loss to the #1 seed in the quarterfinals, O’Donahue won four straight matches against wrestlers from Deerfield, Hotchkiss, NMH, and Choate. O’Donahue, who took 5th place at last year’s championships, will be making his second trip to the National Prep Wrestling Championships.

Michael Accetta ’24 had one of the tournament’s highlights, pinning his nationally-ranked opponent from NMH in the consolation semi-finals. Accetta, seeded 5th at 132 lb., finished in 4th place overall, earning him a spot at Nationals.

Carlo Tucci ’26 was the only Brunswick wrestler to make it to the semi-finals, finishing in 4th place at 157 lb. Tucci, seeded 5th, earned his place in the semi-finals by defeating the #4 seed from GFA, who had previously beaten Tucci twice in the season, including in the WNEISWA Championships the previous weekend. Tucci will be making his first trip to Nationals.

Co-captains Tomas Delgado ’23 and William MacGillivray ’23, as well as Enzo Vera ’23 and Christian Yanoti ’25, all finished in 6th place and qualified for Nationals. Delgado, seeded 8th at 190 lb., had key victories over the #9 seed from Lawrence Academy and avenged a previous loss to the #5 seed from Exeter. Vera wrestled to his 6th seed at 138 lb., highlighted by a pin over the #7 seed from St. Paul’s. Yanoti, unseeded at 106 lb., earned key wins over opponents from Avon and Thayer.

Jack Degl ’25 wrestled to his 7th seed at 150 lb., with solid wins over wrestlers from Portsmouth Abbey and Pomfret, and Whip Gorman ’24 wrestled up a weight class but was eliminated with an 8-4 loss by decision. Quinn McGraw ’26 had a tough draw, losing to the #5 and #6 seeds in succession.
