Obituary: Mi Heh Kim

Mi Heh Kim

Mi Heh Kim was surrounded by her children and grandchildren when she was called to her Lord on Jan. 31. She was born in Seoul, Korea on July 24, 1928, and lived there until after the Korean War. She was a graduate of Kyunggi Girls High School and received a bachelor’s degree in Pharmacology from Seoul National University and a master’s degree in Public Health Nutrition at the University of Toronto.

After moving to the United States, she lived most of her adult life in Ridgewood, NJ where she raised her children single-handedly. She was a dedicated high school teacher of chemistry and physics and was always a devoted member of the church. As a single mother, she learned from the hardware store owners how to fix things around the house. They loved her – especially when she greeted them with her warm homemade egg rolls! In her retirement years she lived in Greenwich, CT. She loved listening to music, walking at Tod’s Point, gardening, reading and attending her grandchildren’s activities.

The oldest of six children, Mi Heh was predeceased by all of her siblings and reunites with them in Heaven. She is survived by her children, Peter Kim and Joy Metalios; their spouses Kathryn Spitzer Kim and Steve Metalios; her six grandchildren, Michael Kim, Jeremy Kim, Alex Kim and his spouse Charlotte Kim, Max Metalios, Zoe Metalios, and Bryce Metalios; and a great-granddaughter, Alma Kim.

Calling hours were Monday, February 6 at Castiglione Funeral Home, Greenwich. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 7, at 2:00pm at First Congregational Church of Old Greenwich, 108 Sound Beach Avenue, Old Greenwich, CT.
